Eclectic meets industrial chic at the tap room of Round Town Brewery. From the brick façade framing the new, tinted glass windows and doors to the original concrete floor of a building first occupied by a large millwork operation, the structure itself is solid. Coming through the front door on to a steel grate landing and a couple of steps down, the bar is against the far wall across the room full of tables, chairs, and stools. To the right, in the corner nook, is a rattan, cushioned furniture grouping that you might find in suburban sun porch or a downtown apartment living room. It invites comfortable conversation over a couple of well brewed pints of brewer Jerry Sutherlin’s beer. Beer List
Literally a few minutes from Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indianapolis Zoo, and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, the dog friendly tap room boasts 350 free parking spots. Parking is hard to find just a few blocks away and what can be found there is certainly not free. When the Colts play at home, tailgating will be found in the tap room lot. For a light snack with a brew, the tap room offers Broad Ripple Chip company chips and Tipsy Turvy Pub Cupcakes. However, if more substantial fare is required, ClusterTruck will deliver items from an extensive menu.
Round Town hosts a series of monthly charitable events focused on helping local charities. Some of the past beneficiaries of these events are Outside the Box, Prison Greyhounds, and Autism Society of Indiana. This program is called Pound of Cure.
The Round Town crew demonstrates a genuine affection for the city and people of Indianapolis and wants to become part of the fabric of the city. Max Schenk, CEO and one of the owners of the brewery says it best.
“At Round Town we want our tap room to feel laid back and inviting. The hours posted in the front window are simply a guideline; if we are here, we will serve. If we have patrons at the posted closing time, we will continue to serve. One common thread of our entire staff is that each and every one of us has worked in the service industry for a period of time, which in my experience lends a particular type of work ethic that seems to have remained with all of us. We love Indianapolis and will continue to do all we can to have earn a reciprocation of that love.”
Round Town will be celebrating their one year anniversary at the tap room on October 21st. Food, live jams, guest breweries, and no cover charge are all good reasons for any beer lover to stop by. The address is 950 S. White River Parkway West Drive at the southwest corner of downtown Indy.
